Applies standard programming procedures and knowledge of pertinent functional areas. Analyzes needs, designs, writes and tests new programs and applications. Maintains and revises existing systems and provides technical assistance to users as well as to others in ITS. Works according to approved requirements and detailed specifications. Applies judgment in devising program logic and selecting and adapting standard programming procedures; obtains advice when precedents are unclear or unavailable.

Sr. Programmer Analyst Job Duties:

  • Identifies requirements by establishing personal rapport with potential and actual clients and with other persons in a position to understand service requirements.
  • Arranges project requirements in programming sequence by analyzing requirements; preparing a work flow chart and diagram using knowledge of computer capabilities, subject matter, programming language, and logic.
  • Programs the computer by encoding project requirements in computer language; entering coded information into the computer.
  • Confirms program operation by conducting tests; modifying program sequence and/or codes.
  • Provides reference for use of prime and personal computers by writing and maintaining user documentation; maintaining a help desk.
  • Maintains computer systems and programming guidelines by writing and updating policies and procedures.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • Keeps equipment operational by calling for repairs; following manufacturer's instructions and established procedures; evaluating new equipment.
  • Protects operations by keeping information confidential.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Develops and maintains applications and databases by evaluating client needs; analyzing requirements; developing software systems.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in computer related discipline. Relevant experience may substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis. Experience in systems design, programming and/or systems software and support.

Knowledge of:

  • Database Design, Development & Support of SQL Server 2008 and up. Proficient knowledge of writing, modifying and implementing Stored Procedures, Functions, Views, Triggers, SSIS Export & Import, DTS and SQL Agent.
  • Programming in Dot.NET Framework, including JavaScript / VBScript, HTML / DHTML, ASP / ASP.NET, VB / VB.NET, C#.NET, XML / XSLT and Web Services
  • Systems development life cycle and project management life cycle

Ability to: Recognize and resolve system related problems; work independently and make necessary decisions throughout the systems process within department guidelines; perform multiple tasks concurrently and respond to emergency situations effectively; communicate technical and complex information both orally and in writing.
